Why do we sleep?

In this fast paced world where people are competing with time, your body undergoes a lot of stress both physically and mentally. Your body and mind are the powerhouses of your very existence which makes it extremely important that they are functioning like well-oiled machinery. However, in this mad rush that man has become a part of, it seems like he has forgotten the importance of sleep and the benefits it brings to his body and mind. Why do we sleep is a question that we will attempt to address over the next few lines. So, why do we sleep? Well the answer is simple.

When you sleep your body gets the required rest that it deserves both mentally and physically because of the metabolic activity that it has undergone throughout the day. At the same time a good sleep would prepare you for an active and adventurous day that you might have planned ahead. Why do we need sleep can be explained by means of a simple example. What is the first thing that you would do if you had a severe headache? You would resort to catching up on some sleep. It is not without reason why you would like to sleep when you have headache. It is only because during your sleep the body undergoes a healing process. It is that time of the day when the body starts it work of repairing and calming down the various systems that are present in the body which in turn will benefit you wherein you will wake up feeling refreshed. Also , one of the reasons that addresses the question of why do we sleep is because a minimum of 6 hours and a maximum of 8 hours of sleep is required to be able to have an active lifestyle. If you do not have proper hours of sleep then the chances that you might end up putting on extra weight are also very high the reason being that when you do not sleep the body tends to save all the excess fat and carbohydrates so that it can burn it when any metabolic activity takes place within the body.

Why do we sleep can also be explained in terms of the levels of memory that one who has proper hours of sleep possesses as against those who do not. Imagine a day when you did not get the required amount of sleep that you are always used to. How does your day go? You feel irritated the entire day. Simply put, the whole day goes for a toss. Thus sleep helps us in many ways. In a nut shell, it helps in the healing process that the body needs. It helps in the process of making the brain activity much more streamlined. It helps you to lose weight and have a much better, more active lifestyle. So, why do we sleep can be best explained by stating that it is needed to have a better day, everyday.
